No sales spin — just the things customers ask us most often.
LVP (Luxury Vinyl Plank) comes in long plank shapes that mimic hardwood. LVT (Luxury Vinyl Tile) comes in square or rectangular tiles designed to look like stone or ceramic. Both use the same wear-layer construction — the difference is shape and pattern. LVP tends to feel warmer underfoot; LVT is often preferred in bathrooms and kitchens where a stone look is more appropriate.
In most cases, yes — with conditions. The subfloor must be flat within 3/16" over 10 feet, structurally sound, and dry. Armstrong floating planks can go over single layers of hardwood, vinyl, or ceramic tile. Glue-down products require a clean, bare substrate. Always check the specific product's installation guide for height restrictions, especially in doorways.
Armstrong recommends sweeping or vacuuming daily and damp-mopping weekly with a pH-neutral cleaner. Avoid steam mops — the high heat can warp planks over time. For stubborn stains, Armstrong's Once 'n Done® concentrated cleaner works on both vinyl and laminate surfaces without leaving a residue.
Most standard mineral fiber tiles are not rated for wet environments — high humidity can cause sagging and mold. For bathrooms, laundry rooms, or commercial kitchens, Armstrong offers humidity-resistant and washable tile options including their Ultima and Bioguard lines, which are rated for RH up to 99% and Class A fire rating.
NRC stands for Noise Reduction Coefficient — it measures how much sound a ceiling tile absorbs rather than reflecting back into the room. An NRC of 1.0 means perfect absorption (theoretical maximum); 0.0 means total reflection. For open offices, aim for NRC 0.70+. For private offices and classrooms, NRC 0.55 is usually sufficient. Armstrong ceiling tiles range from NRC 0.45 (basic) to 0.90 (high-performance acoustics).
